Mexico is quickly emerging as one of the fastest growing and most popular countries for animation studios. The significant amount of youth in the country has allowed for the growth of animation to skyrocket in the country, and it has been announced that Mexico’s first ever stop-motion animated feature film has begun production. Inzomnia is the title of the film which is being directed Luis Tellez and being produced by Paula Astorga and Milko Luis, according to Variety. Tellez has directed, animated, and written a solid amount of Mexican animated shorts, but this will be first ever venture into feature film.
Inzomnia will follow the story of Camila, a 10 year old girl on a quest to save her family and the rest of the populace of her city from an evil businessman who has turned all of the inhabitants into basically robots with the power of an insomnia pill. Camila is unaffected by the pill, allowing her to be the one who saves her city.
The film will be an extremely diverse animation team, featuring animators from all over the world including Poland, Brazil, Spain, Chile, and Argentina. The film looks to be released sometime in 2020, and we are very excited to see what else is announced for the film.
