Back in 2008, Disney caused storms of excitement amongst fans when it decided to revive its iconic character Indiana Jones after twenty years for a fourth film installment. And as of this morning, it seems they’re going to do it again.
Indiana Jones is famously played by Star Wars alum Harrison Ford, who joined director James Mangold and Fleabag actress Phoebe Waller Bridge at D23 this morning.
Ford looked rather emotional and called the franchise “an incredible experience”. He noted the action films are about fantasy as well as mystery, but also sentiment. Ford enthusiastically stated, “We have a really great story to tell, as well as a movie that will kick your ass.”
Along with Ford, composer John Williams is returning to score the movie.
This movie is the first time legendary director Steven Spielberg will not be at the helm of an Indiana Jones picture. Instead James Mangold of Logan and Ford v. Ferrari will be leading the project. Logan actor Boyd Holbrook, who is also joining the project, has assured fans that the franchise is in very capable hands.
Unfortunately, at the panel Ford also implicitly confirmed this will be the final film in the franchise with him as Indie. But in the meantime, we can enjoy Ford in the role he’s mastered over these past 41 years.
Indiana Jones 5 is currently scheduled to premiere on June 30, 2023.
