‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ Super Bowl Trailer

20th Century Fox took Super Bowl 50 as a prime opportunity to catch another look at Independence Day: Resurgence. Director Roland Emmerich returns with the long-gestating second installment in the franchise twenty years after the first Independence Day made big mess of the planet Earth, helped catapult Will Smith (not returning) to the A-list and captured box office gold.

While Smith isn’t back on board (he’s prepping another franchise hopeful Suicide Squad this year), many are returning for a second invasion. Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum and Vivica A. Fox are all reprising their roles while franchise newcomers include Liam Hemsworth (fresh from Hunger Games duties), art-house queen Charlotte Gainsbourg (Melancholia), Maika Monroe (It Follows) and current Emmerich mainstay Joey King (White House DownStonewall). Carter Blanchard wrote the screenplay.
