Next year will mark the 35th anniversary of the release of the movie, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure. To celebrate the film’s anniversary its star, Paul Ruebens, will be taking the film on tou which, according to Movie Web, is supposed to start in Portland Oregon on Valentine’s Day.
The movie, is of course based on The Pee-wee Herman Show, a stage show where the titular Pee-wee, played by Ruebens, would pretend he was in a low budget kids show. The success of stage show eventually led to Warner Brothers deciding to create a movie based Pee-wee’s character. The plot tells the simple story of the innocent Pee-wee Herman trying to track down his bicycle after it gets stolen, all while meeting eccentric people and constantly finding himself in the middle of bizarre situations.
Pee-wee’s Big Adventure was directed by none other than Tim Burton in his cinematic directorial debut. The film’s success would prompt Warner Brothers to let Burton direct some of his breakthrough films including Beetlejuice, Batman and its sequel Batman Returns, in which Ruebens briefly cameoed. Other cast members included Mark Holton, Diane Salinger, voice actress E. G. Daily, Judd Omen, Alice Nunn, John Harris, and the late Phil Hartman, who also helped write the movie’s script.
Tickets for the tour’s events will be going on sale soon. So if you’re a fan of Pee-wee ,or you’ve never seen the original film but are interested in finding out more, this might be something worth checking out.
