IFC Films or Independent Film Company Films recently announced its rebrand. Scott Shooman, who heads the IFC Entertainment Group, talked about the rebrand with The Hollywood Reporter.
Shooman said, “ As consumers are more savvy and associate the types of films with the purveyor, it felt important to really shape and fill out that consumer face.” The rebrand includes the name Independent Film Company as well as a rebrand for vertical media distribution. Under the entirety of IFC Entertainment will be the IFC Center movie theater, RLJE label, and Shudder streaming. Accompanying the rebrand is a new logo as well as a contribution from Beastie Boys’ Adam “Adrock” Horovitz for an audio theme. Although it is not a huge change, the company is still excited.
In the last year, the company saw the largest opening weekend in the company’s history. Shooman emphasized the consumer desire for “quality movies” and IFC hopes to fulfill this desire. The indie distribution company is imploring the former creativity as well as new ideas in the films they distribute.
The company is turning 25 with credits including Boyhood, Frances Ha, Memoir of a Snail, Blackberry, The Taste of Things, Late Night with the Devil, Longlegs , and Civil War.
