IFC Films Sets ‘Ghostlight’ Release Date

IFC Films will release their Sundance-acquired film Ghostlight this upcoming June. The film will start with a run through New York and Chicago before transitioning to a worldwide release the following week.

Directed by Alex Thompson and Kelly O’Sullivan, the film stars the real-life Kupferer family playing a fictional family enduring a terrible loss. Construction worker Dan (Keith Kupferer) drifts through life, further away from his wife and daughter. Soon, he discovers and joins a local theater production of Romeo and Juliet, bringing him a new spark in his life. However, as the events of the play start reflecting on his life, he and his family will have to confront a personal tragedy before their despair swallows them whole.

The studio and the filmmakers have expressed excitement regarding this project and its eventual release. Thompson and Sullivan called the story “near and dear to [their] hearts” and can not wait to share the final product with their “hometown of Chicago and the rest of the country.” When IFC first obtained the rights for distribution, co-distributer Sapan Studios complimented the movie’s “delicate, unselfconscious story about family and love in which every note rings true and resonates so deeply.” Because of this, studio head Josh Sapan said, “There is no one better than Scott Shooman [AMC Network Film Group head] and the IFC Films team to bring this exquisite movie to audiences.”

Ghostlight will glow for New York and Chicago on June 14, 2024.
