‘IF’ Tops The Box Office Claiming $35 Million Domestically

The box office totals for the weekend are looking to end on the imaginary side of things. IF opens to audiences this weekend, but the film is already slightly under expectations.

IF follows a young girl, still recovering from a recent loss. But her life takes an unexpected turn when she discovers she can see imaginary friends, leading to her and her neighbor trying to find homes for all of them.

By the end of the weekend, IF was originally looking to take home $31.5 million. However, with the Sunday totals, Hollywood Reporter noted that it has bumped to $35 million instead, closer to the $40 million it was on track for.

On top of the gross, Hollywood Reporter noted the film sports some mediocre critical scores, but audiences have been thoroughly enjoying it upon its conclusion.

Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes gets bumped down to second this weekend, landing around $26 million.

Another installment in the long-standing sci-fi franchise, Kingdom follows a young chimp who has to embark on a journey to save his family from the clutches of Proximus Caesar, a bonobo who vastly misconstrued the teachings of Caesar.

Third this weekend goes to The Strangers: Chapter 1, earning $12.4 million, off of estimates that had it not even cracking $10 million. Comparatively, the original Strangers from 2008 made $20.9 million in its first weekend, while 2018’s Strangers: Prey At Night made numbers closer to Chapter 1, with a $10.4 million opening.

Fourth goes to The Fall Guy with $8.5 million, while fifth is taken by Challengers, at $2.9 million.
