Actor Idris Elba’s (Obsession) Green Door Production Company is in the process of adapting the Marc Olden historical thriller Poe Must Die for a three part movie deal, reports Publisher’s Weekly. A 300-page epic, the story follows Edgar Allen Poe in the 1840’s fighting demonic forces (while sometimes drunk) along with his partner who is a renowned fighter. Together they pursue a sorcerer who murdered the fighter’s wife and is also seeking the restorative Throne of Solomon.
John Cusack (High Fidelity) recently played a crime thriller version of Poe in 2012’s The Raven. The poet’s dark thematic style has often been projected onto the author himself, making for intriguing character portrayals in literature and film. It is as of yet unknown who will be cast as Poe in this latest interpretation, or if Elba will make an appearance himself.
Elba will next be starring alongside Gemma Arterton (Runner Runner) in A Hundred Streets, will voice Shere Kahn in Disney’s The Jungle Book reboot, and will appear in Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. He also continues his work on the British television series Luther.
