Iconic Horror Actor Sid Haig Passes Away at 80

This week horror fans everywhere are morning the loss of character actor Sid Haig. The actor’s widow posted tragic news of his death on his Instagram account this Saturday, with many of Haig’s fans posting their condolences. The cause of Haig’s death has not been confirmed, but it was reported that he was in the hospital earlier this week for breathing complications. He was 80 years old at the time of his death.

Born in 1939, Haig had a very interesting career and earned over 100 credits on his Imdb page. He is probably best known for appearing in several horror exploitation films and his role on Jason of Star Command. Many horror fans recognize Haig for his portrayal of Captain Spaulding in the movies House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects, and 3 from Hell, all directed by Rob Zombie. Haig also worked regularly with famous producer and director Roger Corman.

Throughout his career the actor made appearances in episodes of iconic television shows like Gunsmoke, Star Trek, Mission: Impossible, The A-Team, Get Smart, and Adam West’s Batman show. He also can be seen in famous movies like the James Bond film Diamonds are Forever and Quinten Tarantino’s Jackie Brown.

While it is sad to have to say goodbye to a great actor like Sid Haig, it is at least nice to remember that he lead a long and interesting life. He will be dearly missed by his loving family, his friends, and his fans.
