‘I Am Woman’ Director Unjoo Moon on Board to Direct David Yoon YA Novel ‘Frankly In Love’ for Paramount Players and Alloy Entertainment

David Yoon New York Times bestselling debut novel Frankly in Love has a director to direct the film adaptation in I Am Woman director Unjoo Moon. According to Deadline, Moon is on board to direct Alloy Entertainment and Paramount Players to bring Frankly in Love to life.

Moon is the director behind I Am Woman, the story of famous, award-winning singer-songwriter Helen Reddy, and The Zen of Bennett, a feature documentary about Grammy-and Emmy-winning musician Tony Bennett.

The script was adapted by Allison Lee (Jawbone) and Evan Dodson (Lee Daniels’ Terms of Endearment). The story follows Frank Li, a high school senior who devises a scheme to pretend to date his parent-approved buddy Joy in order to win the lady of his dreams without disturbing his traditional Korean-American parents but is eventually left wondering if he ever truly knew love—or himself—at all.

Yoon’s novel was so good Time magazine called Frankly in Love, one of the best YA books of all time. The YA novel was also Morris Award 2020 finalist, The Children’s & Teen Choice Book Award 2020 finalist, and IndieBound No.1 Bestseller.

“Admirably, Yoon explores themes of racism, forgiveness, and acceptance without getting earnest or preachy or letting anyone off the hook. And there’s a universality to the story that cuts across cultures,” said The New York Times about Yoon’s novel.
