Hugh Jackman is reportedly in very early talks with Lionsgate to join the upcoming big-budget adaptation of Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey. Jackman would portray the role of the protagonist hero, Odysseus.
The Odyssey follows the story of Odysseus, as he embarks on a journey back home after the Trojan War. Jackman doesn’t have a contract in place and the talks are in the preliminary phase thus far. No other actors have signed on or as of yet being eyed for roles.
As it stands, the development of the film is in the early stages which could afford the studio time to wait for Jackman to finish production on the last Wolverine film he is set to star in. Currently finishing production on X-Men: Apocalypse, Jackman can next be seen in Pan, also starring Garrett Hedlund (Unbroken), Amanda Seyfried (Ted 2) and Rooney Mara (Her). That film, directed by Joe Wright (Atonement) is set to open on October 9, 2015. Jackman was last seen on screens in the science fiction film Chappie and last summer starred in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The actor was nominated for an Academy Award and picked up a Golden Globe trophy for his work in Tom Hooper’s 2012 musical Les Misérables.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Mockingjay (Part 1 and 2) director Francis Lawrence appears set to direct the film. Mockingjay writer Peter Craig will pen the script and Nina Jacobson of Color Force will produce the project.
Filming is expected to begin some time next year.
