Anyone who fondly remembers Steven Spielberg’s Hook will say that amongst the film’s memorable characters was the  new leader of the Lost Boys, Rufio. The character was made incredibly due to his costume, narrative role and acclaimed performance by a young Dante Basco.  Since then, Basco has gained quite a sizable resume in well-like projects, most notably for his vocal role as Zuko in the critically acclaimed animated series, Avatar the Last Airbender. Now, according to Deadline, Basco is set to make his directorial debut with a new film called The Fabulous Filipino Brothers.

This film is a collaborative project between Dante and his brothers Darion and Dionysio, both of whom wrote the film’s script. Not only that, but Dante, Darion, Dionysio and their other brother Derek will be fulfilling the project’s title roles. Fabulous Filipino Brothers is described as a dark romantic comedy following the many shenanigans of three brothers, all weaved together by four vignettes of the situations they find themselves in ranging from cockfighting to discovering an unexpected package. These events lead up to a shotgun wedding the brothers are attending at their family house. All this is narrated by the brothers’ sister, played by Dante’s real life sister, Arianna Basco.

This marks the first time since 2000 that the Basco brothers have appeared in a film together. Their last major appearance was in the Asian American drama The Debut. Not only this will make for a great family reunion project, but it’ll expand Dante Basco’s career as a first-time director. Basco certainly has made quite the name for himself in many popular projects, so The Fabulous Filipino Brothers will be a great way to showcase his talents outside of acting.

No release date has been currently set for The Fabulous Filipino Brothers.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
