Coralie Fargeat found quite the success last year with the release of her most recent film, The Substance. After being nominated for a slew of Oscars, including Best Picture, one of Fargeat’s earliest adventures into the world of filmmaking has surfaced.
When she was just 17 years old, Fargeat took it upon herself to make her own homemade recreation of The Return Of The Jedi.
While reporting on the initial surfacing of her project thanks to Letterboxd publishing it on YouTube, the HoloFiles stated that she used a lot of techniques that have become commonplace in recreations of films such as this, with stop-motion animation, while also putting her friends into suits based off those in the film. The stop-motion sequences utilized many of the action figures and vehicles that Kenner made to tie in with the films in the 80s.
Screenrant, when reporting on Fargeat’s creation, noted that this makes her one of many in the realm of film who were heavily influenced by the original Star Wars trilogy. Alongside Fargeat, other filmmakers who were also inspired by George Lucas’ saga include the likes of Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson.
As stated, The Substance is up for several Oscar’s, including Best Picture, Best Leading Actress for Demi Moore, and Best Original Screenplay, among others.
