A24 has released its first look at its new film, The Iron Claw, starring Zac Efron as wrestler Kevin Von Erich. The first look showcases Efron’s bulked-up physic wildly flying through the air while kicking his opponent.
The Iron Claw, written and directed by Sean Durkin, is known for his work on Martha Marcy May Marlene, The Rental, and The Nest. The film will co-star The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White as Kerry Von Erich and Beach Rats’ Harris Dickinson as David Von Erich. Holt McCallany, Maura Tierney, and Lily James will also appear in the film.
The Iron Claw is based on the Von Erich family, known for their wrestling dynasty, starting in the 1960s. Plot details have not been released for the biographical film, but will likely focus on the string of tragedies the family experienced throughout the decades, including the deaths of all of Kevin’s brothers.
Von Erich has praised Efron for his bulked-up body, stating, “I didn’t ever look that good. He looked great though, he must be working really hard.”
