Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians) has been set to play the lead in The Tiger’s Apprentice. This new animated film is the Paramount adaption of a children’s novel of the same name.
The 2013 novel follows a young Chinese-American boy in San Francisco who meets a shape-shifting tiger named Mr. Hu. Mr. Hu and the boy bound very quickly and become fast friends. Eventually, Mr. Hu teaches the boy everything he knows about the magical creature he comes from. The young boy learns that Mr. Hu is the guardian of the Chinese zodiac. Soon, the boy comes face to face with creatures he never even thought existed.
For the feature, Golding will voice the tiger, but there has been no word on a casting decision for the other roles.
Carlos Baena, a former Pixar animator, is making his directorial debut with the film. Baena worked on films such as Wall-E and Toy Story 3. Jane Startz and Sandra Rabins are working together as producers on the film while Raman Hui and Kane Lee will serve as executive producers.
According to Paramount, the film will be released on Feb. 11, 2022, so fans will have a long time before seeing the final project.
