Helena Bonham Carter and Pierce Brosnan are set to star in new romantic comedy that explores the true story of George Bernard Shaw’s 1914 West End production of Pygmalion. Joel Hopkins has written the script and will be directing the film, with the UK production set to start in Spring 2021.
Taking place shortly after Shaw finishes writing his masterpiece, Pygmalion (which would eventually be adapted into the Oscar-winning musical My Fair Lady), the film centers around his efforts to cast the great Mrs. Pat Campbell to play the role of Eliza Doolittle. But is her casting just an opportunity for Shaw to get another chance with a love that once got away?
“This is exactly the kind of film the world needs right now,” said producers Adam Rolston and David Braithwaite. “A feel-good story that will make you laugh and make you cry for the right reasons. We can’t wait to get started.”
Not Blood Likely is being produced by Rolston and Braithwaite through their Studio Pictures banner. The duo previously produced A Streetcar Named Bob and its sequel A Christmas Gift from Bob. Cornerstone films is handling worldwide sales rights and will introduce the picture later this month at the American Film Market.
“Joel’s wonderfully entertaining script breathes new life into the most beloved of Shaw’s plays and the casting of Helena Bonham Carter and Pierce Brosnan will make this a strong commercial proposition for buyers around the world,” said Cornerstone’s Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder.
