‘He-Man’ May Not be Getting Another Movie, But a Documentary is Underway

With She-Ra and the Princesses of Power’s Netflix success and Skeletor making frequent appearances on Cartoon Network’s Robot Chicken, Mattel’s Masters of the Universe franchise is slowly returning to the public eye. For those somehow unfamiliar with the franchise, Masters of the Universe began in the 1980’s as a toy line and tie-in Filmation cartoon starring the muscle bound hero He-Man, alter ego of Prince Adam. Armed with his Power Sword He-Man and friends constantly defend their homeland of Eternia from the evil forces of the insanely ripped Skeletor and other barely-clothed buff evildoers.

The popularity of Masters of the Universe and He-Man have led filmmakers Randall Lobb and Robert McCallum to create a documentary on the series. The documentary will be titled The Power of Grayskull and is set for a DVD irelease this September. The Power of Grayskull will cover Masters of the Universe’s long and bizarre history, including its once lucrative toy line, comic books series, the infamous 80’s cartoon and its spinoff series She-Ra, the 1987 live action movieand so much more.

The Power of Grayskull will also feature appearances by actors from the live action Masters of the Universe including Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella. Other interviewees will include Richard Edlund and J. Michael Straczynski, who wrote screenplays for the original 1980’s cartoon, as well as Skeletor’s original voice actor Alan Oppenheimer. Perhaps this documentary will bring more attention to He-Man.
