HBO Confirms a ‘Deadwood’ Movie is Coming to the Small Screen

After years of waiting, fans of the hit show Deadwood are getting a movie. HBO’s hit drama ran for three seasons and ceased production in 2006, ending on a bit of a cliffhanger and leaving critics and fans alike demanding more. With an array of award nominations and eight wins, HBO finally organized actors’ schedules and pieced everything together enough to greenlight the project.

The show takes place in a small gold-mining camp known as Deadwood, South Dakota. Set during the 1870’s, the narrative of the story follows the progress from mining camp to thriving town, complete with disease, corruption, government, community, and entrepreneurship all with an ‘Old West’ flair. The extensive cast includes such Hollywood icons as John Wick’s Ian McShane, Santa Clarita Diet’s Timothy Olyphant, House of Cards’ Molly Parker, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri‘s John Hawkes.

Although plot details and concrete information on returning cast members for the film is unknown, creator, producer and writer of the show, David Milch, has supplied an impressive script that HBO programming president Casey Bloys is delighted with. According to Variety, the picture may begin filming as early as October, with a possible HBO air date in spring of 2019.
