Hawkeye Bruised and Bloodied in Set Pic from ‘Avengers 4’ as Russos Tease Fans

Now that the first trailer for Captain Marvel has hurtled into your local Blockbuster, attention turns back to the next big superhero team-up film, the Untitled 4th Avengers Film. Members of the cast and crew are currently in the thick of reshoots (and shoots), with some Avengers clearly faring better than others in the titanic battle with big bad Thanos. Jeremy Renner posted the below pic to his Instagram page, letting fans know that he’s all smiles despite looking like Thanos may have dropped a moon on him.

Renner returns as bow-and-arrow-wielding Hawkeye in Avengers 4 after sitting out Avengers: Infinity War to spend time with his family. It’s a running joke in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that he’s the old man in the crew and constantly on the verge of retirement, so the extent of his involvement in next year’s Avengers flick remained unknown until now. With the battle wounds on display in this pic, it’s apparent that he will be directly involved in the battle to turn back time and prevent half of Earth’s population from turning to ash. With a bow and arrow and no supernatural abilities it’s unclear how useful he’ll be against Thanos, but beggars can’t be choosers in this stage of the game.

Others players in the Avengers universe are also teasing fans. Evangeline Lilly (the Wasp from Ant-Man and the Wasp) posted an Instagram pic of herself holding bottle of champagne with a caption saying that she’s done and going home. Her involvement in Avengers 4 remains a mystery since she supposedly met the same dreary end as half the population in an Ant-Man and the Wasp post-credits scene. Next up, we have Karen Gillen, who plays Thanos’ daughter Nebula in the MCU, posting a now-deleted pic to Instagram of her phone’s alarm (set to go off at 4:30 am), labeled “Reshoots!” The image also says, “You know what this means….Nebula has some unfinished business with Daddio.”

Not to be left out of the fun, the Russo Brothers (directors of Avengers 4) hopped onto Twitter to add a little gasoline to the superhero hype-fire. They posted the below photo, inviting fans to wisely use their precious time looking for clues that may or may not be there.

Some amateur sleuths think they see four A’s in the pic (for Avengers 4), but aside from being mildly clever that doesn’t really tell us anything interesting. Others point out that the prop on the left seems to be a miniature quantum machine last seen at Avengers HQ, and if the Quantum Realm figures into Thanos’ defeat as many have speculated, this could be what the Russo Brothers intended to hint at. Whatever their intention, hopefully the next tease results in a final name for Avengers 4, or even a brief teaser trailer, as either tidbit would make the wait for May 3, 2019 less torturous.
