Hans Zimmer Hits Coachella For Rare Performance Including Compositions From ‘The Dark Knight’

UPDATED: 4/18/17 – A clip has surfaced from Coachella with Hans Zimmer leading his iconic score from Christopher Nolan’s Inception.

EARLIER: Film composer Hans Zimmer, 10-time Oscar nominee (he won a statue for composing the score for Disney’s The Lion King) and prolific go-to composer for giants ranging from Ridley Scott to Christopher Nolan, made a stop at Coachella on Sunday evening. While on hand, he surprised fans with an unexpected treat: a sampling of his iconic score to The Dark Knight films. Unexpected in the sense that Zimmer rarely samples his Dark Knight compositions in public.

Tracks included in Zimmer’s set:
-“Why So Serious?” (The Dark Knight)
-“Fear Will Find You” (The Dark Knight Rises)
-“Aurora” – in memory to the victims of the shooting in Aurora, Colorado

The first time Zimmer collaborated with Nolan was on Batman Begins in 2005; he contributed to all three of Nolan’s Batman features. Oddly, while Zimmer is an Oscar veteran, he never received a Best Original Score nomination for his work on The Dark Knight films – he did however earn nods for his iconic work on Nolan’s Inception (2010) and Interstellar (2014). Zimmer is reuniting with Nolan on this summer’s World War II epic Dunkirk.

Zimmer was surrounded by a full orchestra. Take a listen:
