Hannah John-Kamen to Play Red Sonja in Millennium’s ‘Sword and Sorcery’ Film

News is finally coming out about Millennium‘s long-awaited Sword and Sorcery feature film adaptation. According to Hollywood Reporter, It looks like the film has found it’s Red Sonja in the form of Hannah John-Kamen, who starred in Ant-Man and the Wasp as the film’s villain. The film is being directed by Joey Soloway, who co-wrote the script with Tasha Huo, the writer behind the upcoming animated Tomb Raider series coming from Netflix and Legendary.

“Hannah is a very talented actress who we’ve been following for years and she IS Red Sonja,” Soloway said in a statement. “Her range, sensibilities and strength are all qualities we have been looking for and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this journey together.”

Red Sonja is a character that appeared first in Marvel‘s Conan the Barbarian comic from the 1970s. The character is known for being fiery and strong enough to go head-to-head with Conan, all while refusing his advances. She proved popular enough to get her own book which has continued to this day. Millennium says that the upcoming film is based on Dynamite Entertainment’s line of Red Sonja comics.

“There could not be a greater moment in our world for Red Sonja’s ways of wielding power and her connection with nature and our planet.” Soloway said when the project was floating around at the European Film Market earlier this year. “An ancient heroine with an epic calling.”

Hannah John-Kamen has been getting more and more attention recently with films like Steven Spielberg‘s Ready Player One and the recent live-action Tomb Raider film. She’s also set to star in the upcoming Resident Evil film reboot, Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City.
