Stan Spry and Eric Woods of the Los Angeles production company The Cartel are going to work with David Permut (Hacksaw Ridge) to acquire the film rights to Joel Dobson’s best-selling novel The Goldsboro Broken Arrow. Military veteran and filmmaker Robert Edwards, known for films such as King’s Gambit and Blackwater, will be writing the screenplay adaptation.
Historical thriller The Goldsboro Broken Arrow tells the true story of one of the most well-known and notorious nuclear incidents. The infamous event happened in 1961 when four pilots were thrown out of a B-52 aircraft which was carrying two thermonuclear bombs. When the plane was above 9,000 feet, it was struck many times by lightning and lost a wing. One pilot died, while the other three survived. The two nuclear bombs fell at a pace of 700 mph and crashed into Goldsboro, North Carolina. The bomb was considered 250 times more destructive than the Hiroshima bomb, and there was no guarantee that they could be deactivated. The book also focuses on twenty-two-year-old Lt. Jack ReVelle, a bomb disposal expert, was tasked with the high-stakes mission of safely deactivating them.
David Permut stated, “It’s scary to think that the incident that happened in Goldsboro so many years ago could still very well happen today. It was only until very recently that the truth about this event was uncovered, leaving me to wonder how many other secrets the government is still keeping from us, today”.
