

Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein, which became available to stream on Netflix on November 7th, has become quite a significant hit. According to data sourced from FlixPatrol, Del Toro’s Gothic Horror adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel became the number one movie on Netflix, both domestically and worldwide. The film outranked Kathryn Bigelow’s A House of Dynamite, which was also a significant hit on Netflix since its release on Netflix on October 24th, and was knocked down to the number two spot on Netflix’s top 5. In the number 3 spot of the top 5 was Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.
This success is good news for Del Toro’s Frankenstein, who had an estimated budget of $120 million, one of the largest budgets of Del Toro’s career. The film has also been a critical success, sporting a Certified Fresh 85% Critics’ Score and an even higher Certified Fresh 95% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. Much of the praise comes from the craft work, with particular attention to the production design, costume design, and cinematography. Many of the performances have also been praised, particularly Jacob Elordi, who plays the Creature.
