Greta Gerwig Set to Headline Rebecca Miller’s ‘Maggie’s Plan’

Actress Greta Gerwig made a strong showing for herself in 2013 as the star and co-writer of the Noah Baumbach comedy Frances Ha, one of our favorite films of last year.  She even netted a surprise Golden Globe nomination for the performance as an aspiring dancer trying to traverse the difficult terrain of modern New York City.  Which may make her the perfect selection for writer/director Rebecca Miller’s latest film entitled Maggie’s Plan, a contemporary comedy about a young woman trying to make it work in New York City.

Miller, the daughter of famed playwright Arthur Miller and wife to thrice Oscar anointed actor Daniel Day-Lewis, writes and will the direct the film this coming fall based on a story by Karen Rinaldi.  Of Maggie’s Plan, Miller says, “It’s the story of a young woman and the joys and pitfalls of trying to make your own way in New York City,” and Gerwig appears a firm choice for the leading role.  “Greta has a very specific kind of innocent intelligence about her that made her perfect for this part. I’m so happy I found her,” Miller states, and according to Deadline, four-time Oscar nominated actress Julianne Moore will co-star in the film in an as yet unspecified role.  Miller previously directed the Robin Wright drama The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (in which Moore co-starred), the Daniel Day-Lewis father-daughter drama The Balled of Jack & Rose and Personal Velocity, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival, and served as the co-writer of the 2005 Gwyneth Paltrow film Proof, based on the Tony Award winning play.

Maggie’s Plan may serve as a part of year or two of ubiquity for the 30-year-old Gerwig. She is set to star in another Baumbach project, one presently known as “Untitled Public School Project,” which is currently in post-production as well as Barry Levinson’s The Humbling, opposite Al Pacino, based on the novel by Phillip Roth.  Moore may be equally prolific with buzzy roles in David Croenberg’s latest Map to the Stars, an inside Hollywood drama starring Robert Pattinson and Mia Wasikowska and a gig as President Alma Cain in a little film called The Hunger Games: Mockingjay.
