Greenwich Entertainment to Release ‘Robert Irwin: A Desert of Pure Feeling’

Greenwich Entertainment has acquired the U.S. rights to Robert Irwin: A Desert of Pure Feeling, a documentary directed by Jennifer Lane that delves into the life and work of acclaimed installation artist Robert Irwin. Irwin, often regarded as a pivotal figure in American art, is known for his groundbreaking landscape installations at LA’s Getty Center and his immersive creations in Marfa, Texas.

The documentary combines interviews with Irwin and his colleagues, along with archival materials and new immersive footage of his artworks. It premiered at DOC NYC and later screened at SXSW. The film is set for release on October 20 in select theaters and on VOD platforms.

Jennifer Lane and David Hollander, the film’s director and producer, expressed their enthusiasm for the partnership with Greenwich Entertainment. Edward Arentz, co-president of Greenwich Entertainment, commended the film for its ability to convey Irwin’s creative evolution and the majesty of his work.

Robert Irwin’s art blurs the boundaries between space and artwork, exploring light, volume, and perceptual psychology. He uses various media, from fluorescent lights to fabric scrims, to create conditional art that responds to its environment.

Born in Long Beach, California, Irwin started as a painter in the 1960s Los Angeles art scene, later becoming a leading figure in the Light and Space movement. His unconventional projects resist easy categorization and have left an enduring impact on the art world.

Robert Irwin: A Desert of Pure Feeling is Jennifer Lane’s debut feature-length film as director and editor. The documentary is produced by Jennifer Lane, David Hollander, Arne Glimcher, and Joseph Cashiola, with executive producers Carolyn Pfeiffer, Nancy P. Sanders, David Koh, and Nicole DiMiceli.

Don’t miss the chance to explore the artistry of Robert Irwin when Robert Irwin: A Desert of Pure Feeling releases on October 20.
