‘Grease’ Prequel ‘Summer Lovin’ Finds Director

The newly announced Grease prequel from Paramount, Summer Lovin’, has found it’s director. The studio has tapped Brett Haley (Hearts Beat Loud, All The Brights Places) to helm the new film.

Since Grease’s original release lead to tremendous success, it has garnered numerous spinoffs and live-action versions. In 2016, Fox created a live-action version that was made for TV and starred Julianne Hough and Vanessa Hudgens. This prequel film is the latest installment in the world of Sandy and Danny.

Summer Lovin’ is the prequel to the iconic 1978 film Grease, which follows Danny (John Travolta) and Sandy (Olivia Newton-John), two teens who attend the same high school after their summer fling. They come from opposite worlds, with Sandy as a classic good girl while Danny is in the much rougher crowd.

The prequel will follow Danny and Sandy’s summer fling, as the film is named for the iconic song describing their relationship,”Summer Lovin”.

Leah McKendrick (All I Need, Bad Moms) wrote the script for the highly anticipated film.

While the film found it’s director, there has been no word on any casting decision for the film yet. Additionally, a production timeline has not yet been released.
