Gravitas Ventures has acquired the rights to distribute the Evel Knievel documentary Being Evel in North America. The film premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and was produced by modern daredevil Johnny Knoxville’s company, Dickhouse Productions.

The documentary looks into the real story behind the myth of the American icon and his legacy. It’s directed by Daniel Junge (Beyond the Brick: A LEGO Brickumentary), who also won an Academy Award for the documentary short Saving Face, which covered the hundreds of Pakistanis who are attacked with acid and a plastic surgeon who made it his mission to restore their faces.

Being Evel will be released this summer in limited theaters and VOD services.
