There have been a number of trailers released for Wes Anderson’s latest: The Grand Budapest Hotel. Most of them have highlighted Anderson’s signature wit and the film’s stellar cast which boasts the likes of Bill Murray, Adrian Brody, Willem Dafoe, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, Harvey Keitel, and Owen Wilson. The latest red band trailer takes a slightly more focused approached, centering in on the film’s star: Ralph Fiennes.
The Grand Budapest Hotel was in the news earlier this week, after it’s opening weekend hauled in $800,000. That might not sound like a lot, but when you consider that it was only released in four theaters, that figure becomes a lot more impressive. The film scored a per-theatre average of over $200,000. For reference, 300: Rise of An Empire which debuted with a respectable $48 million, had a per-theatre average of just under $13,000.
The latest trailer does a good job explaining why people have gotten so excited about The Grand Budapest Hotel. Anderson’s style looks as refined as ever and, more importantly, Ralph Fiennes is impeccably cast as the hotel’s concierge, Gustave. Fiennes is known more for his more serious roles in Schindler’s List and The English Patient or as Voldemort in the Harry Potter franchise, and it’s nice to see him showing off his comedic chops. His timing is impeccable, even in the minced up world of trailers.
