The Gotham Film Award nominations have been announced, with Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another leading the pack with six nods, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

First presented in 1991 as part of The Gotham Film and Media Institute, The Gotham Awards honor and celebrate independent films and filmmaking. In 2022, a budget cap rule that disqualified films with budgets higher than $35 million was removed, allowing big blockbusters to compete.

Now in its 35th year, the ceremony will expand to 10 Best Picture Nominations, with One Battle After Another leading with six nods. The other nominated films include If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Familiar Touch, Hamnet, Sorry, Baby, The Testament of Ann Lee, Train Dreams, Bugonia, East of Wall, and Lurker.

In addition to the nods, several tribute awards that will be presented during the ceremony have been announced as well, including the Director Tribute for Noah Baumbach (in honor of his new film, Jay Kelly), a Spotlight Tribute for Tessa Thompson who is producing and starring in Hedda, the Vanguard Tribute for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, and an Ensemble Tribute for the cast of Ryan Coogler’s Sinners.

Speaking about this year’s nominations and tributes, Jeffrey Sharp, Executive Director of the Gotham Film & Media Institute, said,

“This year’s nominees celebrate an extraordinary year of cinematic achievement — one defined by bold, original storytelling, festival breakouts, and filmmakers whose independent vision extends across studios and streamers. These nominees, and our Gotham Tributes, reflect the year’s most accomplished filmmakers and performers and embody the community that has defined The Gothams for 35 years.”

The Gotham Film Awards will be presented on Monday, December 1st, in New York.
