In the inevitable “show must go on” mentality of Hollywood, the 78th annual Golden Globes are gearing up for very different awards show. On the eve of their nomination announcement, the Globes have said that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are returning to co-host the event, but on different coasts 3,000 miles apart.
Per Variety, NBC plans to have one live showing of the awards ceremony with one host on the east coast and another on the west coast. Tina Fey will be live at The Rainbow Room in New York, while Poehler will be at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, the typical location for the show.
The last year has been odd for the industry as they attempt to continue traditions during an on-going pandemic. Plenty of awards shows have tried a mix of live and virtual ceremonies in the last year.
Fey and Poehler, while a safe bet, are somewhat perfect representations of both coasts, and always have brought a lot of energy to their past shows. The comedians have put their marks on both of their locations respectively. However, Ricky Gervais in a full hazmat suit lambasting the industry for continuing an awards ceremony during a pandemic seems pretty perfect. Perhaps 2022.
As of now no other presenters are known, but it is safe to assume, if safe, there will be plenty of special guest comedians, actors, and more from either coast.
The Golden Globes will announce their nominations on February 3 at 5:35 am PST on the Today Show, while the ceremony itself will be held bi-costal at 5 PM PST and 8 PM EST on Sunday February 28.
