Godzilla Vs. Kong is holding its ground as the top grossing film currently playing in the U.S. with an additional $7.7 million in its third weekend of release, making its total intake just over $80 million. The film is likely to be the first in the U.S. and Canada to cross $100 million since the beginning of the pandemic.
Even with the film being available for free for HBO Max subscribers, Godzilla Vs. Kong is still pulling audiences to see the action on the biggest screen possible. Although other anticipated Warner Bros. films releasing in 2021 have seen similar hybrid releases, none have been quite as successful at the box office. The film is also still dominating in China, and has earned over $177 million in the country, bringing Godzilla Vs. Kong’s worldwide total to $390 million.
In second place this week was Universal’s Bob Odenkirk-led action-thriller, Nobody, which earned just $2.5 million in its fourth weekend, bringing its U.S. total to $19 million. The film is also now available to rent on demand.
The next big release that will likely see some success at the box office is Warner Bros.’ video game adaptation, Mortal Kombat, which is set to release later this month on April 23.
