Fans of Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros’ MonsterVerse are in luck, because the first official trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong has just released, and it’s packed to the brim with action. The upcoming next chapter will pit two of cinema’s greatest monster icons against one another with humanity caught in-between. It’s being helmed by the director of the live-action 2017 Death Note adaptation, Adam Wingard, with a screenplay from Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein.
Godzilla vs. Kong features an all-star cast that includes The Legend of Tarzan’s Alexander Skarsgård, Enola Holmes’ Millie Bobby Brown, Vicky Cristina Barcelona actress Rebecca Hall, Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse actor Brian Tyree Henry, Harlock: Space Pirate lead Shun Oguri, and more.
So far, the trailer is getting positive reception. The YouTube comments are filled with speculation about what might happen in the upcoming film, with many hoping for an eventual team-up between the two title characters. The MonsterVerse is three films deep with the franchise starting with Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla in 2014, which was followed up by Jordan Vogt-Roberts‘ Kong: Skull Island in 2017. Then, Michael Dougherty’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters released in 2019.
While the films have seen mixed critical reception, audiences seem to be enjoying the growing emphasis on large-scale action set-pieces involving the titular monsters. Godzilla vs. Kong will release simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max later this year on March 26.
