George Clooney and Julia Roberts are reuniting for the romantic comedy Ticket to Paradise. Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, Director Ol Parker will direct the movie from Universal Pictures and Working Title. Filming is expected to happen later this year. The writer behind Hidden Figures, Oscar-nominee Ted Melfi, wrote the script for the romantic comedy based on an idea from Parker and Daniel Pipski. Clooney and Roberts are going to play a divorced couple, and they team-up to travel to Bali and stop their daughter from making the same mistake they believe they made 25 years ago.
Due to the film industry’s uncertainty during the pandemic, film studios have been selling their movies to streaming services with high prices attached to them. Sources told Deadline that when the project came together through Working Titles, streamers swarmed to get a piece, but Universal was quick to decline the selling of their movies.
According to Deadline, Universal’s top bosses said that they are in the theatrical movie business.
Clooney and Roberts previously worked on Jodie Foster’s 2016 thriller Money Monster, about Financial TV host Lee Gates (Clooney) and his producer Patty Finn (Roberts), and their crew is taken as hostages by an irate investor. They also worked together on the Ocean’s Eleven films.
