‘Gamestop: Rise of the Players’ to Release on January 28

Producer and director Jonah Tulis has just released the trailer to his documentary Gamestop: Rise of the Players following the controversies of video game store Gamestop and its crashing stock value that was bought out by RobinHood app users in the stock market to stop the foul economic practices of a hedge fund.

In early 2021 the video game retailer store known as GameStop had become a trending topic on social media and noteworthy on all news covering the economy. For an inexplicable reason, its stock value had plummeted and hedge funds were betting against its value in hopes of keeping it decreasing and then buying it out, financially ruining the company in the process. Anonymous stock market app users on the internet had a different plan entirely. Financial app RobinHood users bought GameStop’s then-inexpensive stock to resurrect its market value, thus hindering the hedge fund from its machiavellian plan to ruin everybody’s favorite physical video game store. It is this intriguing premise that will be showcased in depth in Jonah Tulis’ documentary Gamestop: Rise of the Players.

Interviewing a wide range of personalities such as stock market experts, gamers, influencers, and actual GameStop investors, the documentary promises to deliver views and opinions from both sides of the coin. You can check out the fast-paced trailer below, featuring actual TikTok and Instagram footage from the time of the stock market phenomenon. The documentary is set for release on January 28.
