‘Game of Thrones’ To Hit The Big Screen In 2029 With Release of ‘Aegon’s Conquest’

Fans of The Game of Thrones franchise should get excited, as the franchise is finally set to hit the big screen with the prequel movie Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest, which is slated for release in 2029. Warner Bros. announced the film’s release date on Tuesday.

Warner Bros. previously confirmed the film was in development at CinemaCon earlier this year. It will be the first feature film set in the world of the HBO TV series adapted from the fantasy book series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin. The film’s prequel narrative will center on King Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros.  Further details about the narrative and any casting have yet to be revealed.

Owen Harris will direct the film, with Beau Willimon writing the script. Harris is no stranger to the Game of Thrones franchise, having directed multiple episodes of the most recent series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Beau Willimon, on the other hand, will be new to the franchise, and his previous credits include creating the Netflix series House of Cards and writing multiple episodes of the Star Wars series Andor.

Warner Bros. has Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest slated for release on June 1, 2029.
