The A24 film The Inspection, based on the life of filmmaker and Marine Corps veteran Elegance Bratton, has cast Jeremy Pope and Gabrielle Union to star in the movie. In his feature debut, Bratton is penning the script and directing The Inspection. Filming is expected to start later this summer.
Pope will play the leading role, a young gay man who joins the Marines, and Union will play the mother whose approval he seeks.
After being booted out of his house for being gay, Bratton began creating films as a US Marine after spending a decade homeless. He was recently nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for his documentary Pier Kids. He also directed short films such as Walk for Me and Buck.
Via Deadline, Ellie T. Brown, a producer for Gamechanger Films, said, “Elegance brings authenticity, heart, and a fresh perspective to this compelling autobiographical story, and we are thrilled to have Jeremy Pope and Gabrielle Union on board to bring it to life. Pope received Tony Award nominations for Ain’t Too Proud and Choir Boy.
Union is currently filming the remake of Cheaper by the Dozen with Zach Braff for Disney Plus.
There is no set release date for The Inspection as of now.
