Fuqua Reunites with Gyllenhaal and Pizzolatto

According to Deadline, director Antoine Fuqua and actor Jake Gyllenhaal are once again teaming up  for a remake of the Danish film Den Skyldige or The Guilty, which will be the American title.

The story follows a police dispatcher(Gyllenhaal) answering an emergency call, but soon the call unravels into a greater crime than once expected. The film is set to start shooting in November and is expected, much like the Danish version, to take place in one room. It can be assumed that the executives also hope to replicate the critical success of the original as well.

This is the duo’s second time shooting together, first being the 2015 film Southpaw. A movie that Jake Gyllenhaal transformed his physical body in directly after finishing separate transformation, one of his best performances in Nightcrawler(2014). Gyllenhaal is continuing his massive acting career with a plethora of movie roles from Spider-man Far from Home(2019) to The Sister Brothers(2018) including a nearly two month Broadway run of the play Sea Wall/ A Life last year as well as a fun appearance on SNL in February. The actor’s career is not slowing down anytime soon.

Director Antoine Fuqua is just as prevalent as Gyllenhaal as he’s in various stages of production in a new sports documentary, sci-fi film, and slave drama starring Will Smith entitled Emancipation.

In addition, he is directing this remake with Gyllenhaal with a script by True Detective’s Nic Pizzolatto, adapted by the Danish script by Gustav Möller and Emil Nygaard Albertsen. This is also reunion between Pizzolatto’s writing and Fuqua’s direction as Pizzolatto co-wrote the remake of The Magnificent Seven(2016)

While this production is still a couple months away, this film could be an opportunity for all parties to create something really special.
