Netflix has finally released the full trailer The Harder They Fall. It’s a two-minute glimpse into Jeymes Samuel’s revision of the Western genre full of revenge and gunslinging bandits.
Fans of the Wild West genre be warned, this is not your John Wayne’s sort of Western movie. Director and screenwriter Jeymes Samuel follows Quentin Tarantino’s footsteps by revisioning the classic Western genre that dominated theaters in the 60s with movies like True Grit, A Fistfull of Dollars, and The Magnificent Seven.
With more action and more Colt.45s spinning than ever seen before in a cowboy movie, The Harder They Fall follows outlaw Nat Love, played by Jonathan Majors, who is hunting down another outlaw called Rufus Buck, played by Idris Elba. Reminiscent of Tarantino’s 2012 success movie Django Unchained in its action, the trailer shows bandits robbing trains, wagons exploding, and duels outside of the town’s bar. Due to its fast sequence of images, it’s hard to follow any narrative for now, though it’s definitely about revenge. The film will also be starring Academy Award nominee for Best Supporting Actor in Judas and the Black Messiah, Lakieth Stanfield. Other fellow outlaws in the movie will be played by Zazie Beetz, Delroy Lindo, and Regina King.
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame rapper, songwriter, and entrepreneur Jay-Z is the co-producer of this gunslinging Bonanza. He and Hip Hop artist Kid Cudi combined their musical talents for the official song to the movie. The rappers had already previously worked closely together on various occasions such as on the recent Kanye West Album Donda and Drake’s Certified Loverboy.
The Harder They Fall will release exclusively on Netflix on October 6.
