Full Sundance 2025 Winners Announced

As reported by Variety, on Friday, January 31st, the full winners were announced for the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. Awards were handed out by the pedigreed juries which included names such as Celine Song and Elijah Wood. In a statement given before the awards, Sundance interim CEO Amanda Kel, quoting Sundance founder Robert Redford, stated “Storytelling is important, part of human continuity”

US Dramatic Special Jury Award for Ensemble Cast: Plainclothes

US Dramatic Special Jury Award for Acting: Dylan O’Brien for Twinless

Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award-US Dramatic: Eva Victor for Sorry, Baby

Directing Award-US Dramatic: Rashad Frett for Ricky

U.S. Grand Jury Prize-Documentary: Seeds by Brittany Shyne 

Directing Award-U.S. Documentary: Geeta Gandbhir for The Perfect Neighbor

Jonathan Oppenheim Editing Award-U.S. Documentary: Parker Laramie for Andre is an Idiot

Directing Award-World Cinema Documentary: Mstyslav Chernov for 2000 Meters to Andriivka

World Cinema Grand Jury Prize-Documentary: Cutting Through Rocks

World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Creative Vision: Georgi M. Unkovski for DJ Ahmet

World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Writing: Chloé Robichaud and Catherine Léger for Two Women

The most important awards to look at are the much-coveted Grand Jury Awards, as many past Grand Jury winners ended up becoming major Oscar players, including Beasts of the Southern Wild, Minari, Whiplash, and Best Picture Winner CODA. This year, the Grand Jury honors went to Atropia and Plainclothes, and Dylan O’Brian winning the acting Grand Jury for Twinless. Keep an eye out to these films, as they might end up becoming major awards contenders come next award season.
