Fox Searchlight has made a deal with Conde Nast Entertainment to adapt an 80-year-old article from The New Yorker into a horror movie according to Deadline.
The two-part article, “Voices Through the Trumpet”, is set in the mid-1800’s and follows the first documented haunted house in upstate New York where two girls claimed to be connected with a spirit that haunted them. Yet when they reached adulthood, they separated themselves from the story – only to then die mysteriously. Carmer investigated the cult that developed around the legend.
J.T. Petty (The Burrowers) is writing the script. He has plenty of horror work to his name – like 2012’s Hellbenders – though he also has a lot of work writing video games, including the second season of Telltale Game’s acclaimed The Walking Dead: The Game. He has also worked on a number of games in the Splinter Cell video games series and has worked on the series’ film adaptation.
Based on the description, Voices Through The Trumpet sounds a lot like the upcoming haunted house movie from Guillermo Del Toro (Pacific Rim), Crimson Peak. It’s likely that the success of Del Toro’s horror movie will dictate production and casting decisions for Fox’s new project.
