Fourth ‘Star Trek’ Film Has Been Confirmed From Director Matt Shakman

IndieWire has reported on news regarding the fourth Star Trek film. The film series stars Chris Pine, known for the role of Jack Ryan in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, as Captain James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto, known for the role of Sylar in Heroes, as Spock, Zoe Saldana, known for the role of Gamora in the MCU, as Nyota Uhura, and Simon Pegg, known for the role of Shaun in Shaun of the Dead, as Scotty.

Matt Shakman, known for WandaVision and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, will be directing the new addition to the Star Trek franchise. Shakman has experience with the science-fiction genre from his work on WandaVision. The first two films in the series, Star Trek and Star Trek: Into Darkness, were directed by J. J. Abrams while the third film in the series, Star Trek: Beyond, was directed by Justin Lin. Pine expressed his excitement to work with Shakman on the new film. Pine remarked “I met Matt Shakman, the director. He’s a super-cool guy, very smart, I like him a great deal.”

This Star Trek film series takes place in an alternate timeline to the original Star Trek tv series which premiered in 1965. These films continue to expand one of the most popular science-fiction franchises in the world. Star Trek 4 will release December 22nd, 2023.
