For the second week in a row, Focus Features has had new title earn the number one spot at the box office. Let Him Go, starring Kevin Costner and Diane Lane, made $4.1M, making it the best domestic opening in six weeks.
Based on the novel of the same name, Let Him Go sees Costner as a retired sheriff who, after grieving over the death of their son, sets out with his wife to find their only grandson. The film was written and directed by Thomas Bezucha, and it currently stands at critic score of 75% with 108 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics praised the strong performances from veterans Lane and Costner.
Last week, Focus released the horror movie Come Play, which earned the number one spot Halloween weekend with $3.2M. Due to a lack of larger studio films being released during the COVID-19 pandemic, smaller movies have a much better chance of grabbing audience’s attentions.
Christopher Nolan’s Tenet finally crossed the $350M mark at the worldwide box office, earning $295.6M internationally and $55.1M domestically. The sci-fi spy thriller has struggled at the domestic box office since its release September 3, and only earned $905K at the box office last weekend.
