Matthew Lillard, who plays William Afton in the Five Nights at Freddy’s film series, just confirmed when the third installment will start filming. While talking about his role in the upcoming Carrie TV series for Amazon Prime Video, Lillard casually mentioned that the third Freddy’s film will begin shooting next year.
The actor said, “I know the early version of the script came through and everyone’s really excited about it. And I know they’re moving to the next level, so we will be shooting in 2027.” With the first draft of the script already being passed out to cast members, it is only a matter of time before the actual filming begins.
The third film’s script will reportedly not be written by game series creator Scott Cawthon. Cawthon co-wrote the first film with Seth Cuddeback and Emma Tammi, and then took on the second one by himself. Now, it has been reported that Gary Dauberman will be taking over the screenplay. The writer is most known for his work on IT and Annabelle. Emma Tammi is expected to return to direct. No story details have been released yet, but based on the post-credits scenes from Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, the third installment will likely adapt elements from the game Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 as well as Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach.
Stay tuned for more updates on the film.
