First Trailer for Sundance Favorite ‘Diary of a Teenage Girl’ Released

The first trailer for the Sundance standout The Diary of Teenage Girl has surfaced online at Yahoo Movies.  The film, based on the autobiographical graphic novel by Phoebe Gloeckner, moved viewers and critics when it premiered at the festival this past February.

The film deals with the coming of age of a precocious adolescent in 1970s era San Francisco. Breakout star Bel Powley makes her big screen debut as Minnie, a conflicted teen who embarks on an affair with “the handsomest man in the world,” Monroe Rutherford (Alexander Skarsgård from HBO’s True Blood). Complicating matters, Rutherford is dating Minnie’s mom, played by Kristen Wiig (Welcome to Me and the upcoming Ghostbusters female reboot).

The project marks the directorial and screenwriting debut of actress Marielle Heller (A Walk Among the Tombstones). The film is slated to open in select theaters on August 7th.
