First Trailer for Animated ‘Batman: Knightfall’ Highlights A Reason For Mr. Freeze’s Lack of Appearances In Live-Action Batman Media

A trailer for the animated adaptation of Batman: Knightfall has been released. Like its comic source material, the adaptation will center around Bane and other members of Batman’s rogues gallery. One of these characters is Mr. Freeze, who has been absent from live-action Batman films despite numerous appearances in animated Batman media. Many have speculated that the character’s absence in live-action Batman films stems from his appearance in Batman and Robin, a film that was a critical and financial failure at its 1997 release and which continues to be much derided to this day. But, as demonstrated by his appearance in the first trailer for Batman: Knightfall, the character could also lack live-action representation due to his more fantastical, technological nature.

This first part of Batman: Knightfall is set to be the first part in a trilogy of animated films adapting the comic book run of the same name. Anson Mount will be voicing Batman/Bruce Wayne, Michael Mando will be voicing Bane, and Pablo Schreiber will be voicing Jean-Paul Valley/Azrael. Part one is written by Jeremy Adams and directed by Jeff Wamester. The trailer can be viewed below:

Part One will be released directly on Blu-ray and onto digital platforms later this year. Release windows for the other two parts have not yet been announced.
