First ‘Saturday Night’ Trailer Released

A new trailer for the upcoming film Saturday Night was just released. Jason Reitman directs the film. As the title implies, Saturday Night portrays how the iconic television show Saturday Night Live came to be.

As Deadline reports, the film will depict the troubles and hurdles that those working on the show had to overcome to bring it to air, including a back-and-forth with security when trying to film and even an ongoing struggle with an NBC executive. Deadline also noted that specifically, the movie is going to take place over the 90 minutes before the show aired.

So far, the cast for the film includes Gabriel LaBelle as Lorne Michaels, Rachel Sennott as Rosie Shuster, Dylan O’Brien as Dan Aykroyd, and Cory Michael Smith as Chevy Chase, among many others playing the parts of those involved in getting SNL off the ground. Director Reitman also helmed Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Juno, and Thank You For Smoking. Reitman also wrote the film, alongside Gil Kenan. The two worked together before when writing Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

Reitman’s father, Ivan Reitman, actually worked with many SNL stars in his films. One of his most popular, Ghostbusters, featured SNL stars like the aforementioned Aykroyd and Bill Murray.
