First Look at Pixar’s ‘Coco’

Although there has been a few pieces of concept art released in the last few months, Entertainment Weekly just published the first fully animated production still of Pixar’s upcoming animated film Coco.

The film follows a 12 year-old Mexican boy named Miguel, and his love of music. But despite Miguel’s love for music, he is not supposed to play it as his family has not allowed music to be played for generations. But when Miguel finds a guitar at his family’s tomb on Dia de Los Muertos, he uncovers a family secret that changes everything.

Being that Coco is a Hispanic story, the voice cast was purposely all Latino, featuring the voice talents of stars such as Gael Garcia Bernal, Benjamin Bratt, Renee Victor, and introducing Anthony Gonzalez as Miguel. The film will be the first Pixar film to feature music prominently (although the film is still not considered a musical).

Coco will be the second feature film for director Lee Unkrich, who has previously directed Toy Story 3. He also served as co-director on Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc. and Toy Story 2. The story and screenplay were written by Adrian Molina, who has been an animator at Pixar for at least a decade.

Coco will hit US theaters on November 22, 2017.
