First Look at Eva Green and Emmanuelle Seigner in Roman Polanski’s ‘Based on a True Story’

Eva Green and Emmanuelle Seigner look to heat the screen in Cannes-bound thriller Based on True Story (D’après une histoire vraie), the first image of which has surfaced on the web. The feature, directed by Oscar winner Roman Polanski, is based on Delphine de Vigan’s novel and comes from a screenplay penned by Polanski and Olivier Assayas (the filmmaker behind Clouds of Sils Maria and Personal Shopper, more commonly referred to as Kristen Stewart’s recent art-house Renaissance).

The French drama – to be distributed stateside by Sony Pictures Classics – centers on a romance between a Parisian writer (Seigner) and an obsessive admirer (Green). Expect a provocative drama, the likes of which perhaps only can delivered from the embittered cinematic facilities of someone like Polanski. No U.S. release date has been confirmed as of yet.

Based on a True Story will make its world premiere at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, debuting outside of competition but certainly to much fanfare – Polanski won the Palme d’Or at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival for The Pianist, the same film he took home the Oscar for Best Director. Polanski has directed classics that include Chinatown and Rosemary’s Baby. His last film was the 2013 feature Venus in Fur, which also starred Seigner, who happens to be married to the filmmaker.

Green most recently appeared in Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and is set to appear in Disney’s upcoming live-action reboot of Dumbo, also set to be directed by Burton. She also recently completed production on the sibling drama Euphoria, an upcoming film in which she stars alongside Oscar winner Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl).

The 2017 Cannes Film Festival runs from May 17th-28th.
