After the state of California announced earlier this month that film and television production could slowly begin resuming, one film has already seemingly broken the specific guidelines that allowed this, forcing the SAG-AFTRA to issue “do not work” order on the production of Courting Mom and Dad, via Deadline. They also seemingly violated film child labor laws, as the statement from the union states that the production “…failed to comply with LA County Health Orders and SAG-AFTRA protocols in connection with COVID-19 as well as California regulations related to minor performers.”
This order has forced production on the film to be halted imminently, and anybody found to be continuing to work on the film would be faced with consequences by SAG-AFTRA. It is unsure what exactly happened on-set, or if a crew member had contracted the virus. It is also not known when this order will be lifted or when anyone will be back allowed on-set.
Courting Mom and Dad stars Kristy Swanson and Scott Baio as married couple on the edge of a divorce, one in which their three children attempt to stop by hiring a personal injury lawyer. It is to be directed by Anna Zielinski (The Book of Daniel) and was supposed to be released in 2021.
This is the first movie to try and fail at production amidst the pandemic, and it remains to be seen how much of a delay in its release this will cause.
