First ‘Birds of Prey’ Trailer Gives Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn the Spotlight

After much anticipation, the long awaited first trailer for Birds of Prey(and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is finally live. Margot Robbie returns as iconic anti-hero Harley Quinn, looking for a new start after a break up with the Joker and assembling a new group of women for even more wild adventures.

Following the events of 2016’s Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey shines new light on a colorful, chaotic Gotham with new characters and new villains. Following a statement made by Robbie, this film aims to depict Harley Quinn more as an independent character with complex story rather than just eye candy. Now she is running the show, with an all-women ensemble and working under a female director, Cathy Yan.

Some familiar faces will be newly entering the DC Universe in this film, including Ewan McGregor, who appears to be the film’s main antagonist as Black Mask. New cast members include Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez, and Ella Jay Basco, who all make up the titular ensemble Birds of Prey.

Guaranteed an R-rating, the film promises some crowd pleasing over-the-top violent antics and fun, whimsical moments. It will likely tie in to James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, but will be unconnected to Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker.

Check out the colorful, action-packed trailer below and see Birds of Prey in theaters February 7, 2020.
